‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term B

Week 6

This week the children have been developing their reading skills in PE when learning about the rules for Netball.  Some of the class have also been active when developing their cycling skills.

The 'Street Art' unit of work came to an end when the children created their own stencils and then used a stippling paint effect. I am sure you would agree that the children have done a fantastic job.

Finally, Mrs Sutcliffe and I would like to wish you all a peaceful Easter and enjoy the break.

Week 5

This week, Year 5 have began a Maths unit on fractions as well as getting to grips with spreadsheets in Computing.  ABC has also taken place and today, the children enjoyed their time in the school's bushcraft area.

We have some excellent writers in year 5 and they have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own ghost stories this week too.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Week 4

Year 5 have had another jam-packed week. They have been developing their netball skills in PE, division skills in Maths, designing and evaluating skills in art and in English they have been inventing their own creatures and writing about them. The children have also started the ABC Programme for Year 5 with Mr. Percy Mathers looking at rules and laws.

Please enjoy the children reading their work aloud and our week in photos.

Week 3

It has been an absolute pleasure having the children back. The children have been living out the core value of resilience in Maths learning  long multiplication at the start of the week and cross stitch at the end. As Mr. MingStones always says 'Quitters never win and winners never quit' and Year 5 did not give up and learned two new skills. Today we enjoyed the sunshine working in the allotments and then in the Bushcraft area.

PE is taught on Mondays and Fridays and Bushcraft it on a Friday morning. If the children can wear clothes for Bushcraft which will also double up for PE please -joggers and leggings will be ideal.

Week 2

This week the children have been treated to long multiplication and division which has certainly challenged the children and parents alike.

In Literacy, the children have been ploughing through Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone where they have been writing newspaper reports, multisensory descriptions and creating their own houses for Hogwarts.

Can I thank everyone for your hard work - you have been fantastic, demonstrating WDPS core values and especially resilience. Mrs. Sutcliffe and I cannot wait to welcome you back as we have not seen you all together since Friday 10th December 2020.

Don't forget PE on Mondays and Fridays and Bushcraft is also on a Friday morning so wear clothes suitable for both. We ask the children to wear a school sweatshirt or cardigan every day with your PE kit.

Week 1

This week we’ve had some tricky maths starting long multiplication. Also we’ve begun the fantastic book by J. K. Rowling  - Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I am no Stephen Fry, but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the first five chapters which can be found in our video resource centre on this website. The children have also produced some excellent examples of the water cycle which has been great to see too as well as learning to tell the time in Spanish. Please enjoy the videos and photos below of just a snippet of the hard work the children have produced this week. Also below are this week’s achievers which is always a difficult job as all of the children have been working hard! Miss Croll
