‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn Term A

Week 6

The children worked very hard on their assessments this week and produced some fantastic Haunted House descriptions for their writing assessment. They then used their ideas to create some Haunted House artwork. They drew their houses then experimented with shading and tone using different grades of pencils. We also got messy with pastels, creating a lovely colourful background before adding silhouettes of their houses.

Week 5

We have had another very busy week this week! We all had a fantastic day at Kirkley Hall, learning all about the forest and trees in the morning, and exploring the zoo in the afternoon. In maths, the children learned how to find 100 more and less than a number. For our whole school attendance week, we discussed why the children should be coming to school and they created some posters all about attendance.

Week 4

This week, we continued place value in maths and looked at greater than and less than. In Science, we compared different types of skeletons. The children also continued to enjoy their ukulele sessions.

Week 3

Year 3 have been hard at work in the allotments this week, helping Mrs McHatton to tidy and organise the garden by weeding and moving soil. In our computing lesson, the children used a computer program to create an algorithm to tell an object make a certain noise when clicked on. They had fun experimenting with the different sounds and instructions. We continued our place value work in maths and the children wrote some lovely descriptions of Prince Pondicherry’s chocolate palace from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Week 2

Year 3 had lots of fun in their first ukulele lesson this week! In our first hockey lesson, the children learned how to hold the hockey stick correctly, how to dribble the ball and they also learned the push pass technique. They realised that controlling the ball might be more difficult than they thought! We continued reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in English and learned about the different food groups and nutrition they provide in Science.

Week 1

It has been lovely to welcome our children back and to meet our new year 3s! The children enjoyed their first Spanish lesson this week and have begun to practise their joined up handwriting. In maths we used base 10 to help consolidate our understanding of place value and we started reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which will be our Literacy text for this half term. The children also wrote me some lovely letters so that we can all get to know each other better. We started our new Science topic ‘Animals Including Humans’ and had our first hockey lesson in P.E. After a very busy week, both children and adults are ready for a well deserved rest this weekend!

P.E. lessons will be every Thursday, so please send your children to school wearing their kit. Bushcraft will be every other Monday beginning 20.9.21.
