Week 6

The children have finished their half term assessments this week. In History, Year 5 were investigating 'Viking horned helmets - historical fact or myth? Please ask your child to explain what they found out and enjoy their Viking pictures.

We finished off the week in the bushcraft area where they made garlic flatbreads and pizza. Their 'cooking over a fire' life skills are developing well. The sun was shining and we had an excellent morning.

This week’s achievers,!!!!

Week 5

Year 5 have been treated to an amazing ‘escape room’ activity on Monday when staff from Northumbria University paid us a visit. The children had to crack codes and apply their literacy skills in order to escape. Team work was vital to be successful. The WDPS  core values really came into play and we had a really enjoyable time.

Week 4

Monday began with a visit from Mr MingStones to share in our learning when we finding out about negative numbers. The children made me very proud.

In the afternoon, we had our last resilience session with Mrs Mather-Shone where the children learned a new breathing technique called belly breathing. The children also looked at red and green thoughts and thought about rephrasing our feelings to be more positive. The sessions have been excellent and have complimented WDPS’s Resilience Programme.

The children finished their busy Monday with fitness and street dance. Don’t the children look smart tin their P.E. kit.

Week 3

Raising Aspiration Progamme at WDPS

23.09.21

Yesterday, Year 5 had a RAP talk by Charlotte and Paige. They work for Highways England. Charlotte talked to the children about being a 'Civil Engineer' and about taking the apprenticeship rout in order to be a civil engineer. Charlotte is currently working on the improvements for the A1 motorway.  The children tried on PPE and the visitors certainly inspired the Year 5s to consider a career in construction.

Our Year 5 Achievers

Week 2

What a busy week with the first of our three week well-being lessons where the children learned to use a breathing technique to help them calm down. Why not ask them to show you how to do it as they need to practise it for Homework. ThIs week the children also had their first fitness and street dance class.

Friday saw our first bushcraft session and looking at the photos, the children had a great time.

Dance so far ...
