‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer Term A

Week 6

After a week of assessments, the children have had a lovely, sunny morning in the gardens and Bushcraft area with Mrs McHatton. See our gallery below. Have a great half term everyone and we'll see you in a week. Remember Monday and Tuesday are training days.

Week 5

We had a special visitor this week! Chris from RJS joined us for a virtual morning to help us design a computer game on the iPads. The children made a Pac-Man style game using scratch. There was a lot of creating, debugging, and problem solving but the children worked very hard and all produced a working computer game to be proud of. See photos of this in our gallery below.

In Science, we did an air resistance experiment where the children made their own parachutes to see which one created the most air resistance. In English we have continued with our book The Arrival and in maths we have been doing more fraction work.

Week 4

Welcome back Year 6! It been lovely to have you all back to school this week and ready to work. We have continued our fraction work from last week in maths. In English, we have started our new book called The Arrival, which is really getting the children thinking. See the start of some of their ideas in the gallery below. We have also been looking at Forces in science. We hope you have a good weekend.

Week 3

Hello Year 6! We hope you are all keeping safe and well at home. We understand its been a strange week but well done to all of you who have completed work on Seesaw and at home. I've attached some of the work we've received on SeeSaw in the gallery below. Some of you may have noticed there is a Boys Vs Girls competition on TTRS. The competition runs until we all return to school. The girls are currently in the lead so come on boys!  We are all looking forward to seeing you back in class on Tuesday. Until then, keep working hard and keep safe.

Week 2

At the very end of last week and because the weather was so nice, we took our learning outside to finish off our river topic. Using chalks and the playground as our canvas, we drew the river system. Please see these in the gallery below.

We have started music this week by listening to different genres. The children have really enjoyed listening to Jonny Cash’s Big River, Jimmy Nail’s Big River and Nathan Evans’ The Wellerman, and you may have heard them singing them at home. As The Wellerman was clearly the favourite among the children, you can see us singing it in the gallery below.

In maths we have been doing fractions. If any children have found fractions tricky, we would like you to encourage them to use Time Table Rockstars at home, as knowledge of times table is a huge advantage.

We hope you enjoy the long weekend.

Week 1

It was lovely to welcome everyone back after the Easter break. We’ve been looking at rivers and the water cycle this week with the children producing some lovely work. You can see some of these in the gallery below. In Maths we have finished off algebra. The children also had a lovely time during Bushcraft on Wednesday where they learnt to used saws safely. It’s been a great and enjoyable first week back, well done Year 6.
