Week 7

The children have had lots of fun this week on the run up to Christmas.  On Tuesday they did an amazing job performing in the Nativity play Wriggly Nativity.  On Wednesday they enjoyed the Christmas craft learning log afternoon with their parents.  This week we have been focussing on the Nativity story and looking at Christmas traditions and how Christians celebrate Christmas.  On Thursday we made 3D structures in DT evaluating skyscrapers around the world.  

Week 6

In class this week the children have enjoyed a pantomime.  In Maths we have continued to sort 2D shapes and draw them labelling the corners and number of sides.  In Science the children had fun transferring germs (glitter) by shaking hands and then investigating the best way to clean their hands and sorted food into food groups including carbohydrates, protein and dairy.  We have continued to rehearse our songs and acting for the nativity play.  On Thursday it was Christmas Jumper day and we had a whole class music lesson learning Jingle Bells on the glockenspiel.

Week 5

Its week five and the children have been working very hard in class.  In English we have been completing reading comprehensions. In Maths the children have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and creating a repeating pattern.  In Science we have looked at the life cycle of a frog and looked at the differences relating to growth.  The class enjoyed a performance from the Rock Steady bands across the whole school. We have also started to learn the songs and parts for our coming Christmas performance.

Week 4

Another busy week in year1-2 this week. In English the children have been writing about Toby and the Great Fire of London, describing the front cover and predicting what the story is about and describing Toby the main character.  In Maths we have been continuing to subtract using a number line and the year 2 children have risen to the challenge of column subtraction. The children enjoyed their visit to the cinema to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 2.  On Thursday the children worked on their teamwork skills constructing 2D and 3D shapes including triangles and pyramids in the school hall. In Science our new topic is Animals Including Humans with a focus on growth. The class measured the feet of children from Y1-Y6 and plotted the data in a bar chart. Then we explained why the older and taller children had bigger feet, compared to the younger children in Y1.

Week 3

In class this week we have been writing a non chronological report about hedgehogs. The children have written about their appearance, habitat and diet.  In Maths we have been focussing on subtraction in year 2 and using the part part whole model in year 1. In R.E the children sequenced the story of Hannukah and drew their own Menorahs.  In History we have looked at the causes linked to the Great Fire of London. In P.E we have enjoyed team building games using the parachute.  In PSHE the class practiced road safety and how and where they can cross a road.

Week 2

In year1-2 in English the children have been learning the difference between fiction and non-fiction books.  They have sorted books and looked at the features of a non-fiction book and started to look at information about hedgehogs.   In Maths we have been learning how to subtract using the Rekenreks. In History we have continued to learn about the Great Fire of London, looking at how the fire spread so quickly.  On Thursday the class took part in an anti bullying workshop.  In P.E. the class had fun doing team building challenges.  In R.E. we acted out giving and receiving a gift, looking at the emotions linked to getting and giving a present. On Friday the children took part in a minutes silence to remember all involved in the World Wars and other conflicts.

Week 1

This week the children enjoyed a spooky disco on Wednesday, dressing up and having a dance.  In English we have been writing poems about Bonfire night using onomatopoeia and an acrostic poem.  In Maths the children have been using addition and learning their number bonds to 10 and 20.  The class enjoyed creating art pictures of Hedgehogs as part of raising awareness of their decline in the UK. Our new History topic is the Great Fire of London.  The children looked at pictures and learnt how the fire started.
