β€˜A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn Term A

Autumn 1 Week 1

Welcome back to school to all of our children and families! It has been a busy week but it has been lovely getting to know everyone. We have been finding out about the children’s families, favourites and interests. The children have worked really hard this week and will definitely be ready for a rest over the weekend.

We have attached the Curriculum Overview for this half term which shows what your children will be learning this term. Please talk you your child about what they have learned as they enjoy sharing their learning.

Should you need to get in touch with your child's teachers, our email addresses are as follows:

Miss Alexander:  Melanie.Alexander@westdenton.newcastle.sch.uk

Mrs Iceton:  Elspeth.Iceton@westdenton.newcastle.sch.uk

Autumn 1 Week 2

In maths this week we have been counting accurately, practising making smaller and larger groups. We have also found smaller groups within a larger set of objects. This half term we are focusing on the 2 times table. Please help your children practise this important skill!

In English, we have worked on the story of the Three Little Pigs 🐷🐷🐷🐺.

In PE, we are learning about how exercise makes us feel and we have talked about our favourite kinds of exercise. This ties in well with this Friday’s Speaking and Listening homework, where we ask you to talk about your favourite sports as a family discussion. ⚽️πŸ₯‹πŸ€Έ‍β™‚οΈπŸš΄‍β™‚οΈπŸ©°

Every Friday afternoon, we have an Achievers Assembly as a whole school. Five children in each class receive a certificate to take home. Two of those children receive their certificate in the hall. We have certificates for Learner of the Week, Positive Attitude of the Week, Reader of the Week, Writer of the Week and Mathematician of the Week. Congratulations to this week’s Achievers: Well done Chloe, Amal, Seth, Sophie and Lily! πŸ€©πŸ‘πŸ†

Autumn 1 Week 3

In maths this week we have been practising counting forwards and backwards in ones, as well as continuing with our 2 times tables. Practice makes perfect!

We enjoyed our first Feel Good Friday music session from RockSteady Music School this week! The children learned about pitch and played a fun game to practise their skills. They also learned a fun vocal warm up and a song to sing and sign, where they learned the Makaton sign language to accompany the song.

Congratulations to our children who received an Achievers Award this week! Elise, Ruby, Freddie, Daniel and AJ looked very happy to get their certificates πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸŒŸπŸ†

Autumn 1 Week 4

In English, we have enjoyed the traditional tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. As well as ordering the story, we have also used speech bubbles and then described the character of Goldilocks. We worked in our groups to find words that described her. We also had to take turns, share and listen to each other’s ideas, which is an important life skill!

This week’s Achievers Awards went to Jay, Chloe, Jacob, Lucy and Isla. Well done to our Achievers, we’re sure their families will be proud of them πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ†πŸŒŸ

Autumn 1 Week 5

In maths we ordered numbers from smallest to largest. Some numbers were missing so we had to count on carefully from 0.

Congratulations to our children who received an Achievers Certificate this week. Jonny, Millie B, Ruby, Armani and Lennox were very pleased! blush

Autumn 1 Week 6

In maths we used counters to find all of the different ways to make 5. We found 6 different ways once we used a system and only moved one counter at a time.

We used mirrors to look at our faces and say what we liked about ourselves to a friend. We also shared something we liked about our friend! This made us feel happy 😊.

Well done to the children who received an Achiever's Certificate this week! Congratulations go to Seth, India, Daniel, Mia and Ella smiley

Autumn 1 Week 7

We had great fun decorating our own pumpkin biscuits! We had to follow instructions carefully and make sure we washed our hands thoroughly. We were all looking forward to tasting them when we got home!
