At West Denton Primary School, we are committed to providing a purposeful and empowering PSHE curriculum that prepares pupils for the next stages of their education and for everyday life. We aim to equip children with the knowledge and understanding they need to make informed choices and to contribute positively to their communities.
Children today are growing up in an increasingly complex world, both online and offline. While this brings many opportunities, it also presents challenges and risks. Through our PSHE curriculum, pupils learn how to stay safe, healthy and manage different aspects of their lives confidently and responsibly.

Our curriculum develops key skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk management, teamwork and critical thinking. These are taught through three core themes: relationships, physical health and mental wellbeing, and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and careers education).
We aim to provide children with the knowledge and tools they need to take care of themselves, both physically and mentally, so they can navigate modern life safely and with confidence.
At West Denton Primary School, we use the 1Decision PSHE framework to support the delivery of a clear, structured and progressive curriculum. This resource enables us to teach key themes such as relationships, health and wellbeing, and living in the wider world in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Through carefully sequenced lessons, interactive materials and real-life scenarios, pupils are encouraged to discuss, reflect and make informed decisions. The 1Decision approach supports the development of essential skills such as resilience, critical thinking and personal responsibility, ensuring that all children are equipped to stay safe, build positive relationships and make confident, informed choices in their daily lives.
