West Denton Primary School SEND Information and Local Offer
The Local Offer
The Local Offer is part of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code of Practice. It sets out the support that is available for children and young people aged 0 to 25 who have special educational needs or disabilities. Local Authorities must publish this information in one place so that families can understand what help is available and how to access it.
The Local Offer includes both local provision and any provision outside the area that the Local Authority expects children and young people with SEND may use. It helps families find clear, accessible information and ensures that services respond to local needs and aspirations.
Our Responsibilities
This statement explains the responsibilities of the school, the Governing Body and the Local Authority in meeting the needs of pupils with SEND. It reflects the requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
All schools receive funding to support pupils with SEND and can use this to make appropriate arrangements using existing staff or by seeking advice from external professionals. When a child has SEND, the school follows the graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review to ensure that support is effective and responsive.
West Denton’s SEND Offer
At West Denton, our highly trained staff work closely with families to support all children with SEND so that they can achieve their potential. We provide a full range of educational and pastoral support and our pupils with SEND make good progress. Every child is an individual and will receive personalised provision where necessary.
Children may be identified as having SEND for a range of reasons, including:

They are having significant difficulty with their learning and making far less progress than expected.

They have a specific learning difficulty, for example dyslexia.

They have emotional or mental health needs.

They have difficulties with social communication and interaction.

They have sensory or physical needs, for example visual impairment.
We offer universal support for all pupils, targeted support for children who need additional help, and specialist support for pupils with more complex needs.
Working with Families
We encourage parents and carers to speak to us as soon as they have any concerns about their child’s development or learning. We work in partnership with families and value their knowledge and insight.
