  • Children's Behaviour Policy

Helping everyone feel safe, happy and ready to learn

At West Denton Primary, we have a Behaviour Policy to help our school be a kind, calm place.  It reminds us how to treat each other, how to make good choices and how to keep everyone safe.

    Children's Behaviour Policy

    Enjoying learning and growing together

At West Denton Primary School we believe that every child deserves to learn in a calm, safe and supportive environment. Our behaviour culture is built on our shared values of Respect, Persevere and Achieve. These values guide everything we do and help children make positive choices, develop self‑discipline and grow as confident learners.

    🌱 Our School Values

Our values are taught, modelled and celebrated throughout the school.

    • Respect

We show kindness, care and consideration to ourselves, others and our school.

    • Persevere

We keep trying, even when things feel difficult.

    • Achieve

We work hard, take pride in our learning and celebrate success.

    🏫 Our School Rules

Our four simple rules help children understand what positive behaviour looks like:

    • Keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves

    • Use quiet, calm voices

    • Always follow teacher instructions

    • Care for the school environment

    Positive Behaviour and Rewards

We celebrate positive behaviour every day. Children are recognised for showing our values, demonstrating effort and contributing positively to our school community.

    Rewards include:

    • Verbal and non‑verbal praise

    • Stickers and achievement stars

    • Sharing good work with staff and families

    • Stars of the Week

    • Positive phone calls home

    • Class and house rewards

    • Individual reward systems where needed

    • Track It Points for positive choices, effort, kindness and demonstrating our school values

Track It Points help children see their progress, celebrate small successes and feel proud of their achievements.

⚠️ Responding When Behaviour Goes Wrong

Children sometimes make mistakes. We respond calmly, fairly and consistently, helping them regulate, repair and move forward.

    A typical response may include:

    • A non‑verbal reminder

    • A verbal reminder will be given and the child will be given time to reflect on their behaviour.

    • A short reset time in class

    • A brief time in another class to regulate

    • A Red Card if behaviour continues or is more serious

Reflection takes place once the child is calm. This helps them understand what happened, how they felt and what needs to happen next. There is always a fresh start.

    💬 Reflection and Repair

    Reflection helps children think about:

    • What happened

    • How they felt

    • How others were affected

    • What needs to happen next

This supports emotional development, self‑regulation and positive relationships.

    🤝 Working With Families

We work closely with parents and carers to support positive behaviour. Families can help by:

    • Talking about our school values at home

    • Supporting routines such as attendance, punctuality and uniform

    • Sharing any information that may affect their child’s behaviour or regulation

    • Speaking to staff respectfully and openly

    • Working with us to help their child make positive choices

    Supporting Children With Additional Needs

Some children need more targeted support to regulate their emotions and behaviour. We make reasonable adjustments and use adaptive teaching to help them succeed.

    This may include:

    • Individual strategies

    • Calm spaces

    • Short bursts of praise

    • Additional regulation time

    • Support from our SENDCo or external agencies

Where a child has a Support Plan or EHCP, responses may differ from the main behaviour system.
