    Our Nursery and Reception Open Day is led by our Early Years Lead Miss Knowles and gives families the best opportunity to explore our Early Years environment, meet our team and find out whether West Denton Primary is the right school for your child.

    Admissions Overview

    West Denton Primary School is one and one half form entry with places for 45 pupils per year group from Nursery to Year 6. Admissions policies are set by ONE Trust and published annually.  Our admissions policies can be found in the links at the bottom of this page.

    Nursery Admissions

    (for children who turn 3 before 31 August 2027)

    We offer 15 or 30 hours of Nursery education in 2027 to 2028 for children who turn 3 by 31 August 2027. To apply for a Nursery place, please contact the School Office. 

    We will need to see your child’s birth certificate and proof of address. This information will be recorded on the application form. Parents and carers will also be asked to complete a Parent Declaration Form which allows the School Office to check with Newcastle City Council whether the child qualifies for a 30 funded place.

    Reception Admissions

    Reception to Year 6 admissions are managed by Newcastle City Council on behalf of ONE Trust.

    When your child joins West Denton Primary, your family becomes part of our school community for the duration of their time in primary education. Our website includes information about our curriculum, our values and our approach to learning. If you have any questions, please contact us by phone or by email.

    Year 7 Transfers from West Denton Primary

    Children transfer to a range of secondary schools at the end of Year 6. In recent years, pupils have moved on to:

    In‑Year Transfers

    To apply for a place in Reception to Year 6 during the school year, please see the Admissions Policy in the link at the bottom of this page. For in‑year transfers, please visit Newcastle City Council School Admissions or ring the Family Information Service on 0191 277 4133.

    Appeals Timetable

    If your application is unsuccessful, you will have at least twenty school days to submit an appeal from the date you receive the decision.

    Deadlines for appeals to be heard before the end of the summer term:

    Transfer place: 31 March 2027

    Reception place: 2 June 2027

    Appeals submitted within these deadlines will be heard within forty school days. Appeals submitted after the deadline may not be heard until after the summer holiday.

    Where possible, appeals arising from late applications will be heard within forty school days of the deadline or within thirty school days of the appeal being lodged.

    In‑year appeals

    Appeals for in‑year admissions will be heard within thirty school days of the appeal being lodged.

    How to Raise an Objection to the School Admission Policy
